Based on the founders' experiences at Paulson and McKinsey, it specializes in the unique category of highest quality companies. This investment universe is closely defined by specific criteria that are met by c. 5% of companies listed on the Western European and North American equity markets. On the one hand, these companies exhibit low volatility and beta, as well as a high crisis resilience and on the other hand, all these companies are on a predictable, high growth (10-15% Revenue growth p.a.) trajectory. The latter point clearly separates White Square from existing quality approaches. Providing the fund with a baseline of returns driven by the compounding nature of the selected companies, this is augmented by active management of the portfolio based on intimate knowledge of the companies' characteristics and behavior that has resulted in a set of systematic trading criteria. The fund invests in c. 25-40 long positions, with the top 15 positions typically accounting for >70% of the portfolio. The investment manager believes that the best hedge against market drawdowns is found in the resilience of the selected companies' business models, however it may employ tail-risk protection based on out of the money put options.
